Penguins Hit End Of Run

The WBS Penguins were making a run toward the end of the season racking up the points as they go, the Pens have won seven out of the last ten putting them in place in their division looking toward playoff's.

Tonight the Pens took on the Portland Pirates who sit in second place in the Atlantic Division with 72 points. The Pens got off to a late start scoring It wasn't until the third period that they got on the board.

The Pirates started late too but got on the board before the Penguins making one nothing heading off the ice for the second intermission even though the Pens were out shooting the Pirates 19 to 13.

The Pens had 4 power play attempts through the second period but didn't convert one not a good thing for the special teams the PK killed off two of Portland's power plays keeping the game close, if the Penguins were going to do this it would have to be in the third period.

The third started out on a bad note for the Pens as the Pirates scored just 3 seconds into a power play as Wallace took a tripping penalty at 1:45 but the Pens didn't give up, Dustin Jeffrey found a puck and put it on net bouncing off either the goalies pad or a defender giving the Pens their first goal of the game and making it a one goal game.

The Penguins got a great 5 on 3 chance in the third hoping to even up the score as DiPenta took a penalty for the Pirates putting his team on the bad side but the Pirates killed the 5 on 3 for 1:06 then as the 5 on 3 expired Penguins Luca Caputi takes a cross check penalty nullifying the Pens power play. The Pirates actually ended up with a power play towards the end of the penalty but the Pens killed it off.

The final minute the Pens were scrambling no time out left they got Thiessen off the ice and the extra attacker on. Pulling out all the stops the Pens tried and tried but just couldn't find an penning. That's the way it would end as the Portland Pirates took it to the Penguins 2-1
